How a Smart Link fob works
-
1
Order your fobs
Pick a color and quantity. You don't need a link yet.
-
2
Set where it points
After checkout, enter any web address on your Smart Links page: a website, social profile, menu, sign-up form or digital contact card.
-
3
Tap with a phone
Hold the fob near the top of an iPhone or the back of an Android phone and the link opens. No app needed on either side.
-
4
Change it anytime
Update the destination from your account whenever you like. The fobs keep working with no reprogramming or reordering.
Questions
Do all the fobs in my order open the same link?+
Yes. Every fob ordered together on one cart line shares one Smart Link, which suits teams, staff and events. For fobs that go to different places, add them to your cart as separate lines with different labels.
Which phones work?+
iPhone XS and newer, and most Android phones with NFC turned on. On Android, NFC is usually in Settings under Connected devices.
Can I see how often a fob is tapped?+
Yes. Your Smart Links page shows the tap count and when it was last tapped.
What happens if someone taps before I set a link?+
They see a simple CredentialCore page saying the link hasn't been set up yet, never an error.
Will a fob open doors or work with my access-control system?+
No. These fobs open web links on phones. Door and building access fobs use different technology and come from your access-control provider.
Can I put an NFC chip in an ID card instead?+
Yes. Any PVC ID card can include the same Smart Link chip as an add-on. See NFC ID cards. NFC cards →
